The first week of school was great with the students. We got in our daily routine and now are settled. As a class, we set up expectations and rewards.. We are using raffle tickets this year along with a prediction raffle to earn rewards. I was lighter on the homework this past week, but it will increase some as time goes on. Please make sure your child is reading at least 25 minutes nightly. We have open house this Thursday (July 20th), so I hope to see you there. The students have been working hard on some poems about themselves. I'm very proud of them. They are very excited for you to see them.

Welcome back from track out, I know this is a little late. We will be in full swing until the end of October. The students received interims this past Friday and they are due back signed. Students still have time to improve, report cards come out the end of September. Currently we are working on decimals in math. In science, we are working on force/motion. They need to study nightly for science including the vocabulary. There is a lot of it. In reading, the students are reading in book clubs analyzing the text and discussing it within their groups. I look forward to a great rest of the quarter. I will soon be scheduling conferences in the next two weeks, so be looking for an email in two weeks to sign up. I hope everyone had a restful long weekend.
I wanted to thank you for coming to open house. If you were not able to be present, I am posting the slideshow under parent information. If you have any questions, please email me. The students are settling in, but I know they are excited to track out. On Friday, when they track out, students will take materials home. Please put these materials in a safe place, so they have them when they return. We will be moving rooms across the hallway. It has been very cold in our room, so your child might want to have a jacket or sweater. I know it is very warm out, but cool in our room. I look forward the start of our third week. I know the students are looking forward to selling their bracelets and necklaces that they have been working hard on this past week in Social Studies.
I'm looking forward to starting the new school year. Fifth grade is one of my favorite grades to teach. I have taught third, fourth, and fifth grade. I taught eight years in North Carolina and taught two years in Tennessee. I decided to move back to North Carolina this year from Tennessee to be closer to family and friends.
I am originally from Connecticut, but moved to North Carolina with my parents my freshman year of high school. My older sister stayed in Connecticut and currently lives there. I graduated from Appalachain University, although I am more of a beach girl than a mountain girl. I look forward to a great first year at Morrisville Elementary! |
